            21 Jump Street boleh dibilang adalah sekuel dari serial drama kriminal televisi populer di tahun 80-an. Serialnya sendiri dibintangi oleh aktor-aktor muda (kala itu), seperti Johnny Depp, Peter DeLuise, dan Dustin Nguyen. Depp setelah bermain serial televisi ini karirnya semakin menanjak menjadi bintang film. Kisah filmnya sendiri nyaris sama dengan serial tv-nya, yakni polisi-polisi muda yang menyamar menjadi siswa SMU untuk menguak sindikat obat terlarang di sekolahnya. Yang berbeda dari versi layar lebarnya adalah kali ini kisahnya diubah menjadi sebuah film komedi murni.

Duo Jonah Hill dan Channing Tatum bermain super konyol sebagai agen Schmidt dan Jenko. Film ini banyak mengigatkan kita pada film komedi konyol lainnya, Pineapple Express (PE) dengan duo maut, Seth Rogen serta James Franco. Sementara Schmidt dan Jenko secara fisik dan intelektual saling melengkapi. Schmidt yang pintar namun lemah fisiknya tertutup oleh Jenko yang berotot namun lemah di otak. Namun tidak seperti PE yang mengandalkan kekuatan dialog dari kedua pemain utamanya, 21 Jump Street menawarkan polah serta aksi-aksi yang konyol yang sangat kocak dari awal hingga akhir filmnya.
Seperti halnya PE walau aktingnya tidak sekonyol Rogen dan Franco namun kekuatan utama film ini ada pada duo pemain utamanya, Hill dan Tatum. Walau mereka sebelumnya lebih sering bermain dalam film drama serius namun mereka sama sekali tidak canggung berakting konyol seperti itu. Hanya memang yang agak janggal mereka tampak sudah terlalu tua untuk menyamar sebagai siswa SMU. Satu lagi pemain yang mencuri perhatian adalah Ice Cube sebagai sang kapten dengan omongannya selalu ketus, kasar, dan tajam. Sayang tidak seperti serial tv-nya, anggota tim 21 Jump Street lainnya tidak berperan banyak, tentunya agar lebih fokus ke dua tokoh utama itu saja.
21 Jump Street memang berbeda tone dengan serial televisi aslinya. Formula komedi-berpasangan rasanya memang lebih cocok untuk penonton masa kini. Warning bagi penonton: Kata-kata makian dan ejekan kasar nyaris ada dalam semua dialognya. Satu lagi, kejutan besar ada di penghujung filmnya yang dijamin membuat Anda terperangah. Dijamin film ini bakal mengocok perut hingga Anda habis. Rasanya film ini adalah film komedi kriminal terkonyol setelah PE beberapa tahun lalu. (Score: B)
