Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery adalah film komedi misteri, sekuel dari A Knives Out (2019) yang juga diarahkan Rian Johnson. Film ini masih pula dibintangi Daniel Craig sebagai detektif Benoit Blanc. Kali ini didampingi sederetan nama-nama besar, antara lain Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, dan Dave Bautista. Film berbujet USD 40 juta ini dirilis Netflix kemarin. Lantas bagaimana pencapaian sekuelnya, apakah masih menghibur seperti film pertamanya?

Di era pandemi Covid-19, milyuner Miles Bron (Norton) mengundang sahabatnya untuk berlibur di pulau kecil miliknya di Yunani. Mereka adalah gubernur Claire (Hahn), ilmuwan Lionel (Odom) seorang ilmuwan, Birdie Jay (Hudson) mantan supermodel dan asistennya Peg (Henwick), lalu Duke (Bautista) dan pacarnya, Whiskey (Clyne). Namun diluar dugaan, ada dua tamu tak diundang, yakni Andi (Monáe) dan sang detektif. Reuni tersebut lantas berubah menjadi tak terkontrol ketika sebuah permainan kecil berujung pada salah satu tamu yang tewas.

Plotnya di awal memang rada mirip The Death of the Nile yang rilis awal tahun ini. Bedanya, Glass Union lebih penuh intrik dan “misteri”. Eksposisi karakter yang minim di awal memang membuat kita buta tentang tokoh-tokohnya. Segala yang mereka lakukan di sana, motif, dan relasi antar mereka, diungkap pelan-pelan sejalan plot mengalir. Kita sebagai penonton mustahil mengantisipasi arah kisahnya. Tak usah repot-repot mengamati petunjuk kecil atau apa pun. Ini hanya sebuah kecohan besar sang sineas yang juga menulis naskahnya. Sisi misteri bukan menjadi menu utama, namun adalah polah karakternya yang konyol. Sisi komedi adalah hiburan terbesar yang dimainkan dengan gaya berkelas oleh semua kastingnya yang bermain menawan. “Twist” plot di 2/3 durasi membuat arah kisahnya berubah 100%. Tak ada seorang pun yang mampu mengantisipasi ini.

Kompleksitas plot yang mengecoh, Glass Onion, A Knives Out Mystery lebih merupakan kisah hiburan dan komedi ketimbang sisi misteri yang menggigit. Plotnya kali ini jelas tidak mau terjebak dalam kisah detektif tipikalnya, sebut saja film Hercule Poirot bahkan Knives Out. Plot Glass Onion terasa tak serius bak sirkus dengan unjuk akting para kasting besarnya. Saya pribadi lebih memilih Knives Out ketimbang ini. Namun tak bisa dipungkiri, Glass Onion adalah sebuah film lawakan yang sangat menghibur yang mampu mengecoh segala perkiraan kita.
