Hidden Strike adalah film aksi komedi produksi patungan Tiongkok-AS yang dibintangi Jacky Chan dan John Cena yang digarap oleh Scott Waugh. Selain Chan dan Cena, pula bermain Pilou Asbæk, Chunrui Ma, Zhenwei Wang, Jun Gong, serta beberapa bintang lokal lainnya. Tak banyak ekspektasi, namun apakah film ini selevel dengan film-film aksi komedi Chan di masa jayanya?

Luo (Chan) adalah kepala tim pasukan khusus dari Tiongkok yang ditugaskan untuk mengevakuasi para kru kilang minyak di tengah gurun Timur Tengah. Sekelompok teroris berniat untuk menculik kru penting untuk mengambil semua cadangan minyak yang ada di kilang tersebut. Sementara Chris (Cena) adalah seorang eks militer AS yang kini membantu satu desa terisolir yang kekurangan air. Chris akhirnya menerima ajakan adiknya membantu kelompok teroris tersebut dengan iming-iming uang yang cukup untuk membantu desa. Rencana berjalan mulus, tidak hingga pimpinan teroris, Owen (Asbæk) memiliki agendanya sendiri. Chris pun membelot, namun sempat bentrok dengan Luo yang mengincarnya. Sadar mereka mengincar target yang salah, Luo dibantu Chris berusaha menggagalkan usaha para teroris untuk mengambil stok minyak terbesar di dunia.

Minyak? Bicara soal isunya, apa tema ini sudah tidak terlalu usang untuk masa sekarang? Tentu tidak untuk film-film Chan yang memang menyukai isu macam ini. Film-film aksi masa silamnya tidak lepas dari tindak kriminal kecil hingga besar, sebut saja pencurian, pemerasan, obat terlarang, bajak laut, senjata nuklir, hingga harta karun Nazi. Hidden Strike pun masih memiliki pendekatan cerita dan visual yang senada, seperti dominasi sisi komedi, plot dan aksi-aksi absurd, celotehan spontan, hingga aksi-aksi perkelahian khasnya. Untuk penonton masa kini yang telah terbiasa dengan gemerlap film superhero, Hidden Stike memang sudah tampak kuno dan “cheap” untuk efek visualnya. Naskahnya pun dipenuhi lubang plot yang sama banyaknya dengan dinding dan pintu yang bolong diterjang peluru dan ledakan bom.

Hidden Strike merupakan film aksi medioker dengan bermodal bintang kelas satu dan CGI murahan. Tidak ada satu pun poin menarik yang ditawarkan selain penampilan dua bintangnya. Chan yang kini sudah uzur rupanya masih mampu menampilkan aksi pertarungan tak jauh dari film-film di era jayanya dengan cirinya yang khas. Setidaknya, film ini bisa menjadi pelepas rindu bagi para penikmat lawas yang mengandrungi sang superstar. Amat disayangkan jika sang superstar masih terus bermain dalam film-film aksi kelas B semacam ini. Chan rasanya masih mampu mengeksplorasi drama aksi yang lebih matang macam The Foreigner. Tidakkah Chan ingin mengincar Piala Oscar (di luar penghargaan khusus)? Dengan pamor dan senioritasnya, rasanya tak sulit jika ia bermain dalam peran yang pas. Semua fans dan pelaku film di dunia pasti mengharapkannya.
