John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum merupakan film seri ke tiga dari aksi sang pembunuh bayaran legendaris yang diarahkan oleh Chad Stahelski yang juga menggarap 2 film sebelumnya. Film ini dibintangi para reguler seri sebelumnya, yakni Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Lence Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, serta pendatang baru, Mark Dacascos, Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, hingga bintang-bintang laga kita, Yayan Ruhian dan Cecep Arif Rahman. Siapa sangka, seri aksi ini begitu laris dengan bujet yang tergolong rendah untuk standar film box office. Lalu bagaimana kini dengan seri ketiganya?

Film ini berjalan langsung melanjutkan kisah sebelumnya, di mana John Wick dinyatakan sebagai excommunicado karena melanggar aturan yang telah ditetapkan. John diburu dengan imbalan US$ 14 juta bagi siapa saja yang bisa membunuhnya. Sontak, seluruh pembunuh bayaran di kota New York memburunya. Perburuan pun dimulai. John mengandalkan seluruh kemampuan fisiknya serta koneksi yang ia miliki untuk bertahan hidup.

Plotnya memang lebih sederhana dari dua film sebelumnya. Bahkan kalau mau dibilang, kali ini malah nyaris tanpa cerita. Separuh lebih plotnya adalah aksi murni dari sang jagoan, bertarung dan bertahan hidup dari orang-orang yang memburunya. Seperti film kedua, satu hal yang membuat kisah film ketiga ini begitu lemah adalah motivasi aksinya. Di film pertama, kita tahu persis mengapa John melakukan semua aksinya, namun sekarang ia melakukan ini semua untuk dirinya sendiri. Dalam satu momen, John berkata, ia ingin hidup untuk mengenang istrinya. Mengenang istri tercinta dengan membunuh puluhan mungkin ratusan orang? Really? Akibat tak ada motif yang kuat membuat nyaris semua aksinya tanpa greget. Tak terasa ada ketegangan dan ancaman, tak ada resiko dipertaruhkan, tak ada apa pun di sini. Sepanjang film mereka bicara soal aturan, lalu dilanggar, diampuni, lalu dilanggar lagi, diampuni lagi, dan dilanggar lagi. Saya tak melihat ada aturan di sini, kecuali kekacauan. Semua ini dilakukan John hanya untuk hidup, eh salah, kesenangan penonton.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum masih mengandalkan formula aksi yang sama dengan sebelumnya, hanya lebih brutal, lebih panjang, dan melelahkan, nyaris tanpa ketegangan dan motif cerita yang memadai. Tak ada keraguan, Chad Stahelski memang memiliki ketrampilan tinggi dan berkelas dalam mengemas semua adegan laganya. Saya berharap sang sutradara mendapat kesempatan unjuk gigi dengan naskah yang lebih baik. Saya tak bilang tak bisa menikmati aksinya, ada beberapa momen aksi, khususnya pada bagian awal, di mana aksi-aksinya terasa sekali sebagai ancaman nyata, namun dalam perkembangan hanya terasa repetitif, bising, dan melelahkan karena sang jagoan terlalu superior. Aksi dua bintang laga kita, rasanya bakal menarik perhatian penonton kita dengan sisipan komedi dan bahasa Indonesia. Cukup membanggakan juga karena mereka mendapatkan durasi tayang adegan aksi yang cukup lama. Lalu siapa sangka pula, bintang laga gaek, Marc Dacascos masih mampu beraksi lincah dan gesit sebagai antagonis utama. Sebagai penutup jika Anda adalah penikmat film laga, maka 100% film ini adalah milikmu.
