Plot “Die Hard” (teroris – sandera) sudah puluhan kali kita lihat, di pesawat, kereta api, bis, dan sebagainya. Namun sepertinya baru kali ini lokasi cerita ada di pesawat ruang angkasa. M.S. One adalah penjara maksimum sekuriti berupa pesawat ruang angkasa yang mengorbit di luar bumi. Putri presiden AS Emilie Warnock (Grace) berkunjung ke M.S. One untuk misi kemanusiaan karena dugaan eksperimen ilegal yang dilakukan pada para tahanan. Pada saat wawancara dengan salah satu tahanan, sebuah keteledoran terjadi hingga tahanan tersebut lepas dan membebaskan seluruh tahanan di M.S. One. Di tempat lain seorang agen andalan CIA, Snow (Pearce) dijebak hingga ia dijebloskan ke M.S. One. Kini coba tebak siapa satu-satunya orang yang bisa menyelamatkan putri presiden yang cantik ini?
Plot jenis ini sudah terlalu sering kita lihat dan hasil akhirnya tidak sulit diduga. Film dengan plot jenis ini memang lebih menarik prosesnya ketimbang hasil akhir. Cukup menarik karena film ini terbagi menjadi dua plot utama yang tujuannya berbeda. Snow tidak hanya harus menyelamatkan sang putri namun ternyata ia pula mencari penyelesaian masalahnya sendiri di M.S. One. Guy Pearce dan Maggie Grace adalah dua sosok yang mampu menghidupkan filmnya. Chemistry antara Snow dan Emily yang berbeda karakter memberikan warna “romantis” di plot filmnya yang cepat. Pearce sendiri bermain sangat baik sekali sekalipun naskahnya dibawah standar kemampuan aktingnya. Sementara dua orang karakter lagi yang bermain cukup kuat adalah Peter Stormare (Scott) si kepala agen rahasia dan Joseph Gilgin (Hydell) si psikopat yang pasti dibenci penonton.
Lockout memang tidak menampilkan sesuatu yang orisinil dari sisi plotnya namun rasanya bisa menghibur para fans berat fiksi ilmiah serta fans aksi plot “Die Hard”. Sekalipun film produksi Perancis ini bisa dibilang amat minim dari sisi bujet namun pencapaian efek visualnya tidak bisa dibilang buruk. Aksi kejar mengejar antara Snow dan polisi di pembuka film disajikan sangat mengesankan. Setting eksterior maupun interior pada semua adegan di luar angkasa juga cukup meyakinkan. Sedikit komentar untuk aksi di klimaks filmnya, film fiksi ilmiah memang bisa memiliki logika yang berbeda dengan film aksi kebanyakan, namun adegan melompat dari pesawat angkasa hingga jatuh ke jauh dibawah sana memang sangat sangat keterlaluan.
