Peter Rabbit adalah  film animasi-live action yang diadaptasi dari kisah klasik berjudul sama karya Beatrix Potter. Film ini diarahkan oleh Will Gluck ynag kita kenal melalui film-film drama komedi, yakni Easy A dan Friends with Benefits. Film ini dibintangi oleh Rose Byrne, Domnhnall Gleeson, serta diisi suara oleh James Corden, Margot Robbie, Daisy Ridley, serta Elizabeth Debicki.

Peter sang kelinci turun temurun tinggal bersama keluarganya, sepupu dan ketiga adik perempuannya, di sebuah lingkungan desa nan permai. Mereka bermusuhan dengan seorang tetangga manusia, yakni si tua McGregor yang kebunnya selalu mereka curi buah dan sayurannya karena mereka anggap masih wilayah mereka. Di sisi lain, mereka juga bertetangga dengan seorang pelukis perempuan bernama Bea yang amat menyayangi mereka. Suatu ketika, McGregor wafat, dan mewarisi rumah dan kebunnya ke keponakannya yang bernama Thomas. Peter dan rekan-rekannya menyangka bisa berpesta pora sepeninggal si tua Mc Gregor, namun ternyata mereka salah besar.

Dari pembuka filmnya, sudah terlihat betapa mengesankannya film ini melalui pencapaian CGI yang memukau. Gambar para kelinci dan hewan lainnya sungguh terlihat amat nyata. Kisahnya sendiri berjalan ringan dan sederhana, yang memang sesuai peruntukan sasaran penonton filmnya. Saya sendiri memang agak bosan melihatnya, arah kisah mudah ditebak serta banyolan melalui dialog dan aksi beberapa kali terlalu berlebihan dan repetitif, namun adik kecil di bangku depan saya terlihat amat gembira dan ikut berloncat-loncat ketika Peter dan rekan-rekannya beraksi. Mau bagaimana lagi? Ini memang film mereka. Saya hanya tertawa geli ketika beberapa-kali Peter dan lainnya menggunakan kutipan dialog film populer lain, misalnya saja “That’ll do pig, that’ll do”.

Dengan pencapaian CGI yang menawan, Peter Rabbit, penuh lelucon yang kadang berlebihan, namun film ini adalah tontonan yang amat menghibur untuk target genrenya. Satu hal lagi yang mendukung film ini adalah tentu para pemainnya, Rose Byrne yang sudah berumur 38 tahun masih terlihat enerjik dan tampak begitu muda dan manis di filmnya. Domhnall Gleeson yang biasanya kita lihat berperan serius dalam film lain, ternyata bermain baik pula dalam film bergenre komedi macam ini. Sebagai kesimpulan, bawa keluargamu untuk menonton Peter Rabbit dan dijamin mereka akan sangat terhibur.
