     Rampage adalah game arcade yang muncul di era 1980-an. Samar-samar, saya masih ingat permainan ini walau kurang tertarik dengan jenis permainannya. Secara sederhana, permainan ini memiliki tiga karakter monster raksasa yang misinya menghancurkan dan meruntuhkan bangunan seisi kota. Lalu bagaimana game ini bisa diadaptasi ke dalam medium film? Secara mengejutkan, sineas Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Misterious Island dan San Andreas),  bisa menyajikan semua aksinya seperti yang dijanjikan bersama aktor laga regulernya, Dwayne Johnson.

     Di luar dugaan, film ini mampu menyajikan latar belakang (game Rampage) dengan amat baik. Davis Okoye, adalah seorang ahli primata yang berteman dengan seekor gorila albino cerdas bernama George. Sementara di luar orbit bumi, sebuah stasiun angkasa melakukan eksperimen rahasia terhadap seekor hewan pengerat, dan hasilnya sungguh di luar dugaan hingga menghancurkan tempat tersebut. Uji eksperimen tersebut jatuh ke bumi, ke tiga lokasi berbeda, dan salah satunya ke tempat perlindungan satwa dimana George berada. Masalah bermula ketika George berubah menjadi liar dan ukuran tubuhnya membesar secara cepat.

     Sejak awal hingga akhir babak kedua filmnya, sungguh mengejutkan kisah filmnya mampu disajikan dengan sangat baik. Plotnya berjalan serius dengan sedikit sisipan komedi. Secara perlahan, tempo cerita bergerak semakin cepat tanpa henti sejalan dengan plotnya, adegan aksi menegangkan silih berganti disajikan, hingga justru saat klimaks (segmen di kota), kisahnya menurun dan tampak sekali dipaksakan untuk tribute game-nya. Pencapaian CGI dan segala pencapaian teknisnya jelas tak perlu diragukan lagi. Khususnya efek suara, melalui raungan tiga sosok monster raksasa yang membahana dan aksi tembak menembak yang begitu menggelegar. Penonton yang memang mencari ini dijamin bakal terhibur puas, sedikit lebih baik daripada pertarungan robot raksasa yang rilis baru lalu, serta begitu kontras dengan A Quiet Place yang serba sunyi.

      Rampage adalah sebuah film adaptasi game yang tidak buruk, menawarkan sebuah sajian aksi yang amat menghibur seperti yang dijanjikan game-nya. Johnson kembali bermain dalam peran tipikalnya bahkan uniknya, segmen pembuka dirinya, entah disengaja atau tidak, mirip dengan film laris yang ia bintangi belum lama ini. Saya menonton film ini di studio (Ambarrukmo) dengan tata suara terbaik (Dolby Atmos) di kota Jogja, percaya atau tidak, Rampage menawarkan sebuah pengalaman menonton dengan kualitas audio begitu hebat yang belum pernah saya rasakan sebelumnya. Monster buaya raksasa jelek itu ternyata mampu mengeluarkan suara demikian menggelegar hingga seisi bioskop bergetar hebat.
