Come True adalah film sci-fi horor produksi Kanada garapan sineas Anthony Scott Burns. Film ini dibintangi beberapa bintang yang masih asing, yakni Julia Sarah Stone serta Landon Liboiron. Tema tentang alam mimpi memang bukan hal baru dieksplorasi medium film. Di luar dugaan, dengan gaya yang khas, Come True mampu menyajikan temanya dengan pendekatan yang sama sekali berbeda.

Alkisah Sarah (Stone) adalah seorang gadis remaja yang lari dari rumah karena alasan yang tak dijelaskan. Tiap malam, ia bermalam di taman kota dan kadang pula menginap di rumah sahabatnya. Satu hal yang aneh adalah tiap kali tidur, Sarah selalu memililki mimpi buruk yang memunculkan sesosok seram bayangan hitam. Suatu ketika, satu laboratorium modern menawarkan pekerjaan untuk menjadi obyek penelitian dengan hanya perlu bermalam di sana. Sarah pun langsung merespon tawaran ini. Segala peralatan elektonik modern menempel di tubuhnya ketika ia tidur. Anomali mimpi buruk yang dialami Sarah ternyata adalah langka yang berusaha diungkap oleh para ilmuwan di sana. Mereka pun sama sekali tidak menyadari apa yang mereka hadapi sebenarnya.

Wow, kisahnya memang segar dan teramat mengejutkan bagi fans sci-fi maupun horor. Jika kamu pernah menonton Nightmare on Elm Street, plotnya memang ada sedikit kemiripan. Dalam Nightmare, sang entiti sendiri yang memburu korbannya di alam mimpi, namun Come True memilih untuk bermain dalam ranah ilmiah. Hal ini yang membuat plotnya berjalan menarik. Plotnya, dari momen ke momen sangat mengusik rasa penasaran dengan intensitas ketegangan yang semakin tinggi menjelang akhir. OMG! Ending-nya, saya pikir tidak ada seorang pun yang bakal mampu mengantisipasinya. Amat brilian dan benar-benar sesuatu yang baru bagi medium film.

Kisahnya yang brilian didukung pula kemasan estetiknya yang amat berkelas. Segmen alam mimpi (sureal), tak pernah disajikan begitu baik, sejak The Cell (2000). Segmen ini disajikan begitu absurd dan menyeramkan. Kita yang menonton hanya bisa pasrah dengan apa yang bakal muncul di layar dan apa yang kita lihat dijamin tidak akan bisa membuatmu duduk nyaman. Satu lagi pendekatan yang unik adalah tone dan atmosfir filmnya. Walau kisahnya berlatar masa modern, namun gaya estetik film serta musiknya sejak awal banyak sekali mengingatkan pada film-film fiksi ilmiah klasik era 1980-an, macam Alien, The Terminator, dan Blade Runner. Ternyata benar, ini bukan kebetulan, saya tersenyum geli, ketika dalam satu adegan menampilkan poster film salah satu film di atas. Sungguh berkelas serta pas dengan kisah dan tone filmnya.

Dengan sentuhan estetik 1980-an, Come True mengkombinasi sci-fi dan horor melalui eksplorasi kisah segar tentang tema alam mimpi dengan twist ending yang mengejutkan. Bagi fans genre keduanya, Come True dijamin bakal memberikan satu tontonan yang segar, plus ada sedikit sentuhan fantasi di sana. Bicara soal alam bawah sadar dengan segala misterinya, memang masih berpotensi dieksplorasi begitu beragam oleh para sineas. Tak banyak sineas yang berhasil membungkusnya dengan segar, dan Come True adalah salah satu contoh yang terbaik.
