Love and Leashes adalah film komedi romantis produksi Korea Selatan yang diarahkan oleh Park Hyun-jin. Film rilisan Netflix ini diadaptasi dari webtoon berjudul Moral Sense karya Gyeoul. Love and Leashes dibintangi oleh dua bintang K-Pop ternama, Seohyun serta Lee Jun-young. Film rilis bioskop bertema BDSM tergolong langka, terlebih film ini dikemas dalam genre komedi roman. Tidak seperti franchise populer Fifty Shades atau kopi mediokernya, 365 Days, yang dikemas dalam genre drama.

Ji-hoo (Jun-young) adalah karyawan baru di sebuah perusahaan public relation terkemuka. Suatu ketika, rekan kerjanya, Jung Ji-woo (Seohyun) menemukan kiriman berisi “benda aneh” yang ditujukan untuk Ji-hoo. Ji-hoo rupanya adalah penganut BDSM yang menjadi penyebab hubungannya putus dengan sang pacar, Hana. Ji-woo yang penasaran, mencari tahu segala sesuatu tentang praktek BDSM. Ketika Ji-hoo menawarkan untuk menjadi partnernya, Ji-woo pun menerimanya dengan sebuah kontrak resmi. Mereka pun mendapat kepuasan batin dari praktek yang masih dianggap tabu ini. Namun, apa pun bentuknya, cinta tak mengenal batas. Ji-woo rupanya menyimpan perasaan pada Ji-hoo.

BDSM? Bagi yang belum tahu istilah ini, silahkan cari tahu sendiri. BDSM dalam plot film ini hanyalah kendaraan untuk menuturkan kisah romannya yang unik. Kekuatan terbesar film ini ada pada sisi ini dan dua bintang topnya memang memegang peranan besar. Bagi orang awam yang tidak tahu sama sekali dengan praktek BDSM tentunya membuat rasa penasaran besar. Film ini seolah “tutorial” BDSM bagi pemula, di mana sosok Ji-woo mewakili kita. Ji-woo yang masih kaku, kerap membuat kita tertawa geli melihat aksi dan polah mereka berdua, seperti satu momen di ruang kantor.

Cukup soal BDSM, lalu bagaimana kisah romannya sendiri. Chemistry antara dua bintangnya memang terbilang apik, khususnya Seohyun (Jii-woo). Tak perlu otak pintar untuk melihat bahwa Ji-woo menyukai Ji-hoo. Konflik batin ini sebenarnya bisa diolah lebih solid, namun justru kisahnya mudah diantisipasi dan eksekusi pun terkesan datar dan sedikit memaksa. Sayang sekali, ini melemahkan bangunan cerita yang sudah terjalin apik di segmen awal hingga pertengahan. Naskahnya terkesan bermain aman dengan ending semata hanya untuk memuaskan penonton.

Dengan kisah pendekatan unik dan tema sensitif, Love and Leashes adalah komedi romantis yang menghibur melalui chemistry dua pemeran utamanya, sekalipun alurnya mudah diantisipasi dan klimaksnya kurang menggigit. Setidaknya, film ini sudah memberi warna baru bagi genre komedi romantis melalui praktek BDSM. Film ini juga mencoba mengirim pesan bahwa sesuatu yang aneh belum tentu buruk. Ini tentu bisa memicu membuat kontroversi ke depannya. Love and Leashes hanyalah sebuah film komedi roman yang menghibur, tidak lebih atau kurang. Tinggal kita sendiri yang memilah, baik dan buruknya.
