Sineas kawakan Guy Ritchie, dalam beberapa dekade terakhir seperti kehilangan sentuhannya. Film-filmnya, tak ada lagi yang mampu mendekati dua karya terbaik awalnya, yakni Lock, Stock and Two Smocking Barrels dan Snatch. Wrath of Man, boleh jadi adalah salah satu filmnya yang mendekati pencapaian dua film masterpiece-nya ini. Film ini dibintangi kolaborator lawasnya, Jason Statham bersama sederetan bintang-bintang yang tidak asing, sebut saja Josh Hartnett, Andy Garcia, serta Scott Eastwood. Naskahnya sendiri diadaptasi sang sineas dari film drama thriller produksi Perancis berjudul Cash Truck (2004).

Seorang pria bernama Patrick Hill (Statham) melamar pekerjaan di perusahaan jasa mobil brankas ternama di seputar Kota Los Angeles. Dengan porto folionya, Hill, atau “H” dengan mudah diterima. Suatu ketika, mobil brankas yang ia antar, dicegat oleh para perampok bersenjata. Sementara rekannya ketakutan, H justru menghabisi semua perampok dengan mudahnya. Sontak, H menjadi pahlawan di tempat kerjanya. Sang pria misterius ternyata memiliki motif lain bekerja di sana, yakni mencari pelaku pembunuh putranya.

Setelah dua film “boxoffice-nya”, King Arthur dan Aladdin, sang sineas rupanya mencoba kembali ke jalurnya dengan sentuhan khasnya. Cara bertutur “nonlinier” yang menjadi trademark-nya kini dominan dalam naskahnya, seperti dua film terbaiknya. Dengan plot kilas-balik yang intensif, naskahnya mampu memberikan sisi misteri (penasaran) sekaligus ketegangan dengan porsi yang berimbang. Otak penonton tak diberi waktu beristirahat barang sedetik pun. Satu elemen plot khasnya, yakni kejadian tak terduga/kebetulan mampu memberikan kejutan besar di tikungan akhir kisahnya. Semua elemen subplotnya mengarah pada sebuah grand finale (klimaks) yang menyajikan segmen adegan aksi yang dahsyat. Tidak hanya sisi ketegangan, namun plotnya yang ber-tone serius juga mampu menyajikan sisi humor berkelas dalam banyak adegannya. Ini yang membuat filmnya menjadi satu paket hiburan yang komplit.

Dengan cara bertutur dan gaya unik sang sineas, Wrath of Man menampilkan kemampuan terbaik sang bintang (Statham) dengan aksi dan kisah yang menghibur untuk fans genrenya. Bicara Statham, rasanya ini adalah salah satu kasting terbaiknya sejak Lock Stock dan Snatch. Boleh jadi film ini adalah naskah terbaik yang pernah ia perankan sepanjang karirnya. Karisma dan pesona Statham adalah salah satu kekuatan terbesar film ini. Sementara bagi Ritchie, sungguh menyenangkan melihat performa terbaik sang sineas telah kembali. Film berikutnya kelak, juga masih dibintangi Statham, semoga tidak mengecewakan, dan bisa lebih baik dari karya terakhirnya ini.
