Wyrmwood: Apocalypse adalah film aksi thriller sci-fi produksi Australia arahan Kiah Roache Turner. Film ini sendiri merupakan sekuel dari Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014) yang juga arahan sang sineas. Film bujet minim ini dimainkan bintang-bintang lokal, antara lain Luke McKenzie, Bianca Bradey, Jack Ryan, Shantae Barnes Cowan, serta Goran D. Kleut. Tak banyak ekspektasi menonton film B-Movies ini, namun untuk twist genrenya, film zombi ini benar-benar menggigit!

Dikisahkan pada masa depan, Bumi dilanda wabah zombi yang menghabisi nyaris umat manusia. Dalam perkembangan, manusia yang tersisa mampu beradaptasi dengan situasi yang keras memanfaatkan gas buangan zombi yang dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan bakar dan sumber listrik. Zombi menjadi komoditi, ditangkap dan dibawa ke fasilitas pengolahan untuk diambil zat esensinya. Rhys, eks militer yang kini (McKenzie) pemburu zombi, menyetor rutin ke satu fasilitas pabrik yang dipimpin sang kolonel (Ryan). Suatu ketika, Rhys menangkap seorang mutan, separuh manusia-zombi yang ternyata tengah dicari-cari ilmuwan bawahan sang kolonel. Melihat gelagat tak beres, Rhys justru kini berbalik melawan sang kolonel.

Dawn of the Dead vs Mad Max! Ini bukan cuma bualan. Batasan konyol dan brilian amat tipis di sini. Ide cerita untuk subgenre zombi terbilang segar dengan segala atributnya. Plotnya yang sederhana tanpa basa-basi mengarah ke aksi tanpa sisi drama sekejap pun. Jika ada dialog sedikit diulur saja kita sudah merasa jenuh. Film ini menarik ketika aksinya berjalan, layaknya seri Mad Max. Tak usah bicara plot, aksi-aksi nonstopnya dijamin bakal memuaskan para fans zombi dan mungkin fans Mad Max. Untuk level bujetnya, jelas tak usah banyak ekspektasi soal visual/setting. Ide dan konsep cerita yang kita apresiasi tinggi.

Kita bisa melihat bagaimana pembuat film bersenang-senang melalui tribute dua franchise besar di atas. Untuk penikmat seri The Living Dead dan Mad Max ini adalah 100% tontonan untuk kalian. Sangat menyenangkan dan menghibur untuk ditonton. Andai saja, sang sineas mendapat bujet yang lebih besar, rasanya ia mampu membuat film ini lebih megah lagi dengan skala yang lebih luas layaknya Fury Road. Membayangkan jika film ini dibuat saja sudah bisa membuat merinding.
