Siapa yang tak kenal aplikasi games Angry Birds. Sudah pasti film animasinya ini dinanti oleh para fansnya khususnya anak-anak dan remaja. Rovio Entertainment, perusahaan pencipta games Angry Birds bekerja sama dengan Sony Pictures Imageworks (SPI) untuk memproduksi film animasi layar lebarnya ini. SPI sendiri lebih dikenal sebagai pembuat efek visual film-film besar seperti seri Spiderman, Narnia, dan lainnya serta membuat film-film produksi Sony Picture Animation, seperti seri Cloudy with s Chance of Meatball dan The Smurf.

         Di sebuah pulau terpencil hidup harmonis berbagai ras burung yang tak dapat terbang. Dikisahkan Red adalah seekor burung yang bertemperamental tinggi dan ulahnya membuat ia dihukum mengikuti sesi terapi untuk mengontrol amarahnya. Disana ia bertemu dengan Chuck, Bomb, Terence, serta mentornya, Matilda. Ketika kaum babi datang dipimpin oleh Leonard, Red mencium niat buruk mereka namun diacuhkan oleh bangsanya. Ketika niat buruk kaum babi benar-benar menjadi kenyataan, Red mengajak seluruh kaumnya untuk mengeluarkan amarahnya untuk menyerbu kaum babi.

        Plot filmnya jelas berbeda dengan game-nya. Latar cerita serta penokohan karakter yang lebih diutamakan disini. Polah konyol Red, Bomb, dan Chuck adalah yang dominan tampak di film ini. Sesekali banyolan mereka memang mengundang tawa namun memang film ini lebih pas ditujukan untuk penonton anak-anak. Banyak banyolan terasa garing dan hanya aksi-aksi slapstick ringan yang pastinya tidak terlalu mengena penonton dewasa. Satu usaha banyolan sinematik mengutip film horor legendaris, Shining, ketika Red membuka sebuah pintu, tidak ada poin banyolan yang jelas disini. Kisahnya sendiri terlalu lambat menuju klimaks dan sebuah penantian yang cukup membosankan sebelum masuk babak ketiga. Semua orang pasti menanti aksinya dan itu pun tidak greget seperti yang dibayangkan.

        The Angry Birds Movie semata hanya menempel pada popularitas game-nya tanpa menawarkan sesuatu yang baru untuk genrenya namun sesuai untuk target penontonnya (anak-anak). Film animasi ini memang secara cerita dan teknis masih jauh dari level film-film produksi Pixar, Disney Animation, atau Dreamworks Animation namun popularitas game-nya sepertinya bisa mengangkat filmnya untuk bisa mendulang sukses komersil. Pesan filmnya jelas sudah tertulis gamblang pada judulnya, sesekali bolehlah kita marah untuk mengatasi sebuah masalah or is it not? Jika mau menonton cukup nikmati saja polah Red, Chuck, dan Bomb.
