Kasus investigasi pembunuhan serial di RS adalah sebuah kasus langka untuk genrenya. The Good Nurse diadaptasi dari kisah nyata yang didasarkan novel kriminal karya Charles Graeber. Film rilisan Netflix ini diarahkan oleh sineas berpengalaman asal Denmark, Tobias Lindholm yang sebelumnya meraih nominasi Piala Oscar Film Berbahasa Asing Terbaik melalui A War (2015). Film ini dibintangi sederetan bintang papan atas, yakni Jessica Chastain dan Eddie Redmayne. Amy (Chastain) adalah seorang perawat RS yang bekerja keras untuk menghidupi dua putrinya, serta memiliki kelainan jantung. Akibat alasan ekonomi, kondisi kesehatannya ia tutupi di tempat kerjanya sembari menanti fasilitas asuransi yang bisa ia dapatkan empat bulan lagi. Di tengah situasi tertekan, seorang perawat laki-laki baru bernama Charles Cullen (Redmayne), direkrut di lantainya. Charles yang mengetahui kondisi Amy, berusaha membantunya untuk melewati masa-masa sulit. Dalam perkembangan, siapa menyangka, bahwa sosok kalem Charles dicurigai sebagai pembunuh serial yang mengincar korbannya di RS.

Berjalan dengan tempo lambat, alur plotnya semakin menemukan bentuk sejalan dengan kisahnya. Simpati kita semakin besar terhadap sosok Amy yang dimainkan begitu mengesankan oleh Chastain. Dilema situasi keuangan dan kondisi kesehatan membuat sosok ini terlihat lelah jiwa dan raga sepanjang film. Tentu ini bukan peran yang mudah. Sahabat barunya, Charles, mengalihkan perhatian sejak separuh durasi. Apakah sosok sahabat yang begitu baik dan perhatian adalah tidak yang seperti kita pikir? Intensitas plot semakin meninggi hingga klimaks, dan investigasi terlarang antara Ami dan aparat adalah satu hal yang membuat kita makin lekat dengan kisahnya. Satu modus operandi unik yang belum pernah kita dengar dan lihat sebelumnya. Dan sang aktor pun, di penghujung cerita memperlihatkan kelasnya dengan akting yang mengesankan.
