The Lego Ninjago Movie adalah film ketiga seri Lego, setelah awal tahun ini sukses dengan The Lego Batman  Movie. Agak mengherankan, dua film ini dirilis dalam waktu relatif berdekatan. Film ini digarap oleh Charlie Bean, Bob Logan, dan Paul Fisher. Aktor dan aktris top menjadi pengisi suara, sebut saja Jackie Chan, Dave Franco, serta Michael Pena. Mirip dengan dua film sebelumnya, Ninjago mengusung tema bapak dan anak, namun kali ini disajikan dengan cara yang sama sekali tidak berkelas.

Lloyd adalah salah satu seorang dari enam ninja yang melindungi kota Ninjago dari si jahat Garmadon. Hal yang menjadi dilema adalah Llyod adalah putra dari Garmadon. Ambisinya untuk menaklukkan sang ayah membuat Lloyd mencuri senjata sakti milik sang mentor, Master Wu. Justru Garmadon akhirnya yang mengambil senjata tersebut dan memanggil monster kucing raksasa Meothra yang dengan mudahnya mengalahkan para ninja dan menghancurkan kota. Para ninja atas wejangan sang guru bertekad mencari senjata super sakti untuk mengalahkan monster tersebut.

Ketika film bermula, sepertinya saya berharap film ini berkisah tentang budaya timur yang kental dengan filosofinya. Walau tidak berharap plot macam Kung Fu Panda, namun kita semua tahu ninja adalah sosok ikonik Jepang yang mahir beladiri dengan segala atribut dan aroma mistiknya. Namun, apa yang saya lihat dalam film ini sungguh jauh dari harapan. Film ini adalah murni untuk anak-anak tanpa mencoba untuk mengali esensi dan filosofi ninja lebih jauh. Coba saja lihat, para ninja dengan atribut warna serta robot a la Power Ranger, gadget canggih, tokoh antagonis a la Darth Vader, kucing raksasa yang menggemaskan, serta tanpa selera humor berkelas sedikit pun. Apa mau dikata, toh memang film ini hanyalah iklan mainan belaka. Pencapaian visualnya sendiri juga tak jauh berbeda dengan dua seri sebelumnya yang memang memuaskan. Namun, itu semua apa artinya tanpa kisah yang memuaskan.

The Lego Ninjago Movie adalah film untuk target usia penontonnya dengan semua kebodohan di dalamnya semata untuk iklan mainannya. Dua film Lego sebelumnya jauh lebih berkelas dari ini baik kisah, selera humor, maupun visual. Lelah, hanya itu yang saya dapatkan sewaktu menonton filmnya. Rasanya penonton anak-anak juga tidak merespon bagus karena humornya lebih ke dialognya yang cepat ketimbang visual. Jika ingin menonton film ini, lebih baik menanti versi home video-nya atau memutar kembali film-film animasi Lego yang sudah banyak dirilis sebelumnya.
