Warcraft, dulu, adalah game PC yang amat populer dan amat menyenangkan untuk dimainkan berjam-jam lamanya. Setelah Angry Bird The Movie yang kini merajai Box Office, Warcraft kini mencoba peruntungannya sebagai salah satu film unggulan musim panas tahun ini diantara gemerlap film-film superhero. Inti plotnya tidak jauh dari game-nya, yakni perseteruan antara Bangsa Orc yang ingin menguasai wilayah bangsa manusia, dan mirip seperti Angry Bird The Movies, kisah film ini bisa dikatakan adalah latar belakang plot game-nya.

Bangsa manusia yang berpusat di wilayah Azeroth mendadak diinvasi bangsa Orc yang dipimpin Gul’dan dengan kekuatan magisnya. Satu pemimpin suku Org, Durotan berkeyakinan adanya solusi damai tanpa harus melalui pertumpahan darah. Sementara di pihak manusia, Jendral Lothar bersama penyihir Medivh menyelidiki ke sarang Orc dan menemukan pintu portal raksasa yang menghubungkan dengan negeri asal Org. Bangsa manusia harus menghancurkan pintu portal ini sebelum ribuan bangsa Orc masuk melewati pintu ini.

Satu komentar untuk film ini: melelahkan. Film yang sarat efek visual ini tidak banyak memberikan latar belakang yang memadai dan langsung memulai kisahnya dengan banyak hal yang membingungkan. Penokohan karakter tidak bisa fokus ke satu karakter karena memang fokus cerita berpindah-pindah dari bangsa Orc dan manusia. Tempo cerita berjalan cepat dari satu peristiwa ke peristiwa lain dan seringkali tanpa bisa kita cerna dengan gamblang. Pertanyaan demi pertanyaan bermunculan sejalan dengan kisah filmnya, mengapa harus wilayah manusia yang dipilih, siapa Gul’dan dan darimana dia mendapatkan kekuatan magisnya “Fel”, lalu bagaimana hubungannya dengan Medivh, semua serba tak jelas. Kurangnya penokohan jelas berakibat kurangnya empati kita pada tokoh-tokoh filmnya. Ribuan nyawa hilang dalam invasi dan pertempuran tanpa sedikitpun rasa simpati kita pada pihak mana pun.

Warcraft adalah film adaptasi game yang amat melelahkan dan membingungkan dengan kemasan efek visual yang berlebihan. Baru kali ini rasanya menonton film begitu lelah karena pencapaian efek visual (CGI) filmnya. Secara visual mengagumkan memang namun penyajian yang berlebihan dengan tone warna yang “suram” membuat melelahkan untuk ditonton begitu lama. Ditambah kisah yang serba tidak jelas membuat sempurna penderitaan menonton. Ketika dulu bermain game-nya hingga berjam-jam lamanya jauh lebih menyenangkan ketimbang menonton film adaptasinya ini. Filmnya secara jelas membuka peluang sekuel untuk kedepannya, but who cares?
