Greenland 2: Migration adalah film aksi bencana yang merupakan sekuel dari Greenland (2020) yang keduanya diarahkan Ric Roman Waugh. Walau film pertamanya tidak terhitung laris akibat gangguan pandemi, tetapi rupanya sang produser masih berani menggarap kisah sekuelnya. Bahkan kini, bujetnya pun lebih besar, yakni nyaris 3x lipat dari sebelumnya, yakni USD 90 juta (sebelumnya USD 35 juta). Film ini masih dibintangi Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, serta peran sang putra digantikan oleh Roman Griffin Davis. Akankah film sekuelnya ini mampu meraih sukses komersial yang sebelumnya gagal dilakukan film pertamanya?

10 tahun setelah komet Clarke menghantam bumi yang nyaris memusnahkan umat manusia. Bumi tidak lagi bersahabat akibat cuaca ekstrem dan efek radiasi. John Garrity (Butler) dan istrinya, Allison (Baccarin) dan Nathan (Davis) selama ini berada di bunker di wilayah Greenland. Ketika gempa bumi dahsyat melanda, bunker tersebut pun runtuh dan ratusan penghuninya harus keluar dari sana. Beruntung, John dan keluarganya berhasil pergi menggunakan perahu penyelamat tersisa. Di tengah alam yang tidak bersahabat, masalah terbesar justru muncul dari sifat alamiah manusia yang mulai lepas dari sisi humanisnya.

Berbeda dengan cerita sebelumnya di mana John dan keluarganya harus bertahan hidup untuk bisa sampai ke bunker. Kini, mereka harus bertahan hidup dalam cuaca dan situasi ekstrem untuk menuju kawah komet Clark yang konon menjadi surga dunia. Setelah babak pertama yang terasa lambat dan melelahkan, kisahnya mulai menginjak pedal gas sejak masuk ke babak kedua. Aksi-aksinya berjalan nonstop dan selalu berpindah lokasi dari waktu ke waktu. Penorama alam dan situasi kota pasca bencana menjadi dominasi visual sepanjang durasinya yang disajikan cukup meyakinkan.

Sementara plotnya, sesungguhnya tidak banyak menawarkan sesuatu yang baru dan bahkan bisa dibilang bermain “terlalu aman”. Nuansa dan atmosfir filmnya terasa senada dengan beberapa film dan seri pasca bencana populer, macam 28 Years of Later, The Last of Us, hingga Civil War. Namun, tiga titel ini dan seri pertamanya masih jauh lebih menggigit daripada Migration. Selain cuaca ekstrem, nyaris tak ada ancaman berarti bagi John dan keluarganya. Sepuluh tahun berlalu dalam tekanan situasi ekstrem seberat itu, umat manusia yang tersisa ternyata masih terhitung beradab atau bisa jadi John dan keluarganya dinaungi keberuntungan.

Untuk genrenya dan sebagai sekuel, Greenland 2: Migration tidak banyak memberikan sesuatu yang baru, tetapi masih menawarkan efek visual dan production value yang menawan. Dengan segala potensi dan besaran bujetnya, sekuelnya rasanya sulit untuk mencapai target komersialnya. Butler sendiri walau memiliki fans fanatik, tetapi rasanya tidak cukup kuat untuk menarik banyak penonton melihat performa film-film yang dibintanginya. Film ini jelas bukan akhir karir Butler, tetapi setidaknya menjadi bukti bahwa ia memang tidak memiliki level karisma bintang papan atas. Tapi untuk fansnya, Migration bukanlah film aksi bencana yang buruk.
