Skyscraper merupakan film aksi-thriller garapan Rawson Marshall Thurber dengan sang bintangnya, Dwayne Johnson. Ini adalah kali kedua, Marshall dan Johnson berkolaborasi lagi setelah film komedi-aksi Central Intelligence. Film ini juga dibintangi oleh bintang lawas, Nave Campbell dan Chin Han. Skyscraper tampak dari variasi poster rilis resminya, plotnya memang terinspirasi dari film aksi ikonik Die Hard. Lantas bagaimana formula plot Die Hard di film ini?

Will Sawyer adalah seorang mantan perwira militer dan agen FBI yang kini bekerja sebagai konsultan keamanan gedung bertingkat tinggi. Bersama istri dan kedua anaknya, sembari Will bekerja, mereka diajak tinggal di gedung super modern The Pearl yang berlokasi di Hong Kong. The Pearl tercatat adalah gedung tertinggi di dunia dengan segala fasilitas yang berteknologi canggih. Di saat Will hampir menyelesaikan pekerjaannya, mendadak teroris mengambil-alih gedung dan membakar separuh gedung tersebut. Will tidak hanya harus berhadapan dengan para teroris, namun ia juga harus menyelamatkan istri dan kedua anaknya dari kobaran api.

Dari sinopsis di atas, sudah tampak jika filmnya tidak menawarkan sesuatu yang baru. Dari sekian banyak film yang menggunakan formula Die Hard, film ini adalah salah satu yang terburuk. Satu yang membuat formula ini berhasil adalah unsur ruang dan waktu yang terbatas, sesuatu yang dipertaruhkan (biasanya orang yang dikasihi), dan tentu saja motif teroris. Kita tahu, segala cara pasti dilakukan agar sang jagoan bisa menyelamatkan orang yang dikasihinya. Hal ini yang memancing munculnya aksi gila-gilaan. Dari tiga aspek ini, dua aspeknya sangat lemah, dan aksinya boleh dibilang terlalu memaksa untuk dilakukan. Tak ada sisipan humor pula, padahal sang sutradara amat kuat di aspek komedi. Memang ada beberapa momen ketegangan di sini, tapi untuk aksi-aksi “nyata” macam ini di jaman serba CGI seperti sekarang, aksinya terasa kehilangan ruh.

Skyscraper merupakan usaha tanggung dari formula plot “Die Hard” yang lemah dari sisi cerita dengan fokus utama pada sang bintang dan target penonton Tiongkok. Will Sawyer menjadi sosok bak pahlawan super, dan sang bintang, Dwayne Johnson bakal bersinar di Tiongkok. Job done. Film-film untuk target penonton Tiongkok dengan bintang besar Hollywood, bakal akan semakin sering muncul ke depannya. Setidaknya, saya berharap tidak mengorbankan kualitas filmnya. Skyscraper memang tidak jelek, namun kualitas filmnya sudah bisa diukur sejak trailer-nya muncul. Untuk formula plot “Die Hard” sendiri, saya masih menanti film aksi yang benar-benar punya ruh macam Die Hard yang seimbang antara cerita dan aksinya. Masih lama sepertinya.
