That’s Amor adalah film komedi romantis arahan Shaun Paul Piccinino. Film ini dibintangi nama-nama yang masih asing di telinga, sebut saja Riley Dandy, Issac Gonzales Rossi, Nancy Lenehan, Daniel Edward Mora, dan Arlene Tur. Film ini baru lalu dirilis Netflix, padahal platform ini belum lama ini merilis beberapa genre roman, seperti Wedding Season, Purple Heart, serta Look Both Ways. Genre roman rupanya bakal rutin tayang, lalu bagaimana dengan yang satu ini?

Sofia (Dandy) seperti tertimpa sial beruntun dalam satu hari; ia dipecat bosnya; pacarnya kepergok menyelingkuhinya; lalu kakinya patah karena jatuh dari tangga. Sofia sementara pindah ke kampung halamannya di kota kecil Sonoma, California, dan tinggal bersama ibunya. Sang ibu (Lenehan) yang tak tahan dengan derita putrinya, mencoba mencari aktivitas untuk mengisi waktu luang mereka. Ia pun memaksa putrinya untuk ikut kursus masakan Spanyol, dan di sana, ia bertemu dengan Matias (Rossi). Sofia yang awalnya dingin, lambat laun terpesona dengan pria santun asal Spanyol tersebut.

Setelah kita disuguhi kisah cinta manis dalam Wedding Season lengkap dengan tradisi lokal India, kini That’s Amor hadir dengan pesona tradisi kuliner Spanyol. Tidak seperti Season yang glamor melalui pengadeganannya, Amor jauh lebih sederhana dan membumi. Berbekal aktor-aktris nonbintang dan kisah yang bersahaja, alur plotnya berjalan natural tanpa banyak sisi dramatik berlebihan seperti tradisi genrenya. Hubungan ibu dan putrinya tersaji hangat, lengkap dengan gerutuan Sofia atas ulah ibunya yang memaksanya untuk melakukan ini dan itu. Pula, awal pertemuannya dengan Matias ketika ia membantu Sofia ke luar dari mobil. Kita serasa tidak menonton film roman, namun seolah melihat kejadian spontan. Chemistry mereka begitu natural dengan dialog-dialog spontannya. Sayangnya, pada sepertiga akhir film, plotnya kembali terjebak format standar genrenya.

Walau sedikit membumi dengan chemistry yang manis, pada akhirnya That’s Amor tetap tak mampu lepas dari tradisi genrenya yang klise. Dalam beberapa momen, khususnya sisi dialog, mengingatkan pada film roman ikonik, Before Sunrise yang pengadeganannya spontan apa adanya. Walau ini tak berakhir mulus, namun tidak untuk relasi hangatnya dengan sang ibu. Akting keduanya seolah terlihat mereka adalah ibu dan putri sungguhan. Jarang, chemistry macam ini terlihat dalam film pada genrenya. Jika saja, film ini berani mengambil resiko lebih jauh dengan mengurangi konflik pihak ketiga dan pengejaran stereotip genrenya, bukan tidak mungkin film ini menjadi istimewa. Selamat Menonton!
