Your dad is The Guard.

Secret Headquarters adalah film komedi keluarga – superhero arahan duo sineas Henry Joost dan Ariel Schulman yang kita kenal melalui beberapa seri Paranormal Activity. Film ini diproduseri pula produser kawakan spesialis aksi, Jerry Bruckheimer yang baru lalu sukses dengan Top Gun: Maverick. Film yang dirilis platform Paramount+ ini dibintangi Owen Wilson, Michael Peña, Jesse Williams, dan bintang muda Walker Scobell. Varian genre superhero ini terbilang segar, tapi seberapa jauh bisa menyumbang sesuatu untuk genrenya?

Charlie (Scobell) adalah bocah laki-laki lincah yang kehilangan masa kanak-kanaknya bersama ayahnya, Jack (Wilson). Bukan bab perkawinan yang tidak harmonis, namun ihwal sang ayah adalah seorang pahlawan super (The Guard) yang menyembunyikan identitasnya. Suatu hari, giliran Jack mengasuh putranya, namun misi dadakan, lagi lagi memaksa sang ayah meninggalkan Charlie. Alih-alih pulang ke rumah ibunya, Charlie justru diam-diam memanggil rekan-rekannya ke rumah sang ayah. Tanpa diduga, mereka menemukan elevator rahasia menuju markas ultra modern, yang tak lain dan tak bukan adalah markas The Guard. Tanpa disadari Charlie, mereka telah membuka sinyal yang membuat pihak jahat mengetahui lokasi tersebut.

Premisnya tergolong segar untuk genrenya yang memiliki prespektif cerita baru yang belum pernah tersentuh. Ibarat sekelompok bocah yang berkunjung ke Wayne Manor menemukan Bat Cave. Menarik. Sayangnya, kisah film ini lebih condong ke target genrenya (keluarga/anak-anak) yang menjadikan plotnya tidak serius (main-main). Bisa dimaklumi, anak seumuran Charlie dan kawan-kawannya melakukan sesuatu tanpa perhitungan dan melihat resikonya. Untuk satu tontonan serius (plotnya sebenarnya mampu ke arah ini) film ini menjadi tidak menarik dan tampak konyol. Film ini melewatkan satu kesempatan untuk melakukan satu terobosan besar bagi genrenya.

Oke, kita lupakan kisah dan bicara soal aksinya. Yah, kurang lebih sama. Seperti ulasan film sebelum ini (Day Shift), kombinasi anak-anak dan aksi, bukan satu formula yang ideal untuk memicu aksi ketegangan, terlebih pendekatan film ini adalah komedi. Segalanya ambyar sudah. Seseru apa pun aksinya, tak terasa ada ancaman yang menggigit. Sekali lagi, untuk sasaran penonton genrenya, ini tidak keliru sama sekali.

Untuk target genrenya, Secret Headquarters bisa jadi bekerja dengan ideal, namun bukan untuk penikmat film serius. Untuk satu tontonan keluarga, film ini sangat menghibur melalui polah aksi para bocahnya. Dalam satu adegan, ketika sang antagonis berhasil mengakalinya (tentu saja penjahat selalu berbohong), Charlie menimpali, “Hei kamu bohong” dengan begitu naiifnya. Rasanya, saya sama naifnya dengan Charlie ketika menonton film ini.
