Tren hiu rupanya masih berlanjut! Kali ini, Shark Bait film thriller serangan hiu arahan James Nunn (bukan Gunn). Film ini dibintangi Holly Earl, Jack Trueman, Catherine Hannay, serta Malachi Pullar Latchman. Seperti lazimnya film serangan hiu yang hanya formalitas tanpa kualitas, apakah kali ini Shark Bait masih punya tren yang sama?

Nat (Earl) bersama rekan-rekannya berlibur di satu wilayah Eropa. Setelah berpesta semalam suntuk, pagi harinya mereka mencuri dua buah jet ski dan melaju ke perairan lepas. Dalam satu permainan bodoh, dua jet ski tersebut bertubrukan yang menyebabkan satu rekan mereka patah kaki (semua ada di trailer yang tak lagi menyisakan pertanyaan). Mereka berlima hanya mengandalkan satu buah jetski yang itu pun dalam kondisi rusak. Belum selesai masalah, seekor hiu putih besar mengintai mereka.

Sulit untuk memberi komentar soal plotnya yang memang sudah tampak konyol sejak awal. Tokohnya adalah sekelompok pemuda-pemudi ugal-ugalan yang hanya tahu bersenang-senang tanpa melihat konsekuensi. Kecuali mungkin, Nat, tapi faktanya ia pun juga ikut bersenang-senang. Latar para pemuda-pemudi yang lemah lantas menjadikan sang hiu menjadi protagonis favorit kita. Ayo ayo, bunuh orang-orang bodoh itu segera! Semoga penderitaan (menonton) segera berakhir. Tak ada satu pun, penggalan plot atau cerita, terlebih sisi estetik yang membuat kita bisa enjoy. Kepuasan batin hanyalah para karakter mendapat resiko yang setimpal dengan perbuatan mereka.

Shark Bait, sebuah thriller gagal dan tak bernalar, di mana lebih menyenangkan menanti sang hiu menyantap korbannya ketimbang aksi bertahan hidup. Tren serangan hiu yang selalu eksis tiap tahunnya adalah satu hal bagus untuk genrenya. Hanya sayangnya tidak banyak film subgenre ini yang berkualitas. Tidak fair jika membandingkan dengan film ikonik hiu, Jaws (1975), sementara Deep Blue Sea, Open Water, The Shallows, hingga The Meg masih layak untuk ditonton ulang. Setidaknya, untuk tontonan sambil lalu para penikmat thriller, Shark Bait bisa dicoba. Satu film serangan hiu berkualitas masih kita nantikan entah kapan.
