Fistful of Vengeance is a supernatural action thriller film directed by Roel Reiné. This film is a continuation of the series Wu Assassins (2019), which Netflix released. Our actors, Iko Uwais, Lewis Tan, Lawrence Kao, and Juju Chan, are also playing just like in the series. The plot itself is a continuation of the ending of the series. It is told that Jenny was killed, and Kai (Uwais), Xin, and Jenny’s older brother Tommy went to Thailand to hunt down the killer.
It is said that the story of this film can stand alone without having to watch the series. Oh really! It will be difficult for viewers who have not seen the series to digest the story. Okay, at least we can distinguish between the protagonist and the antagonist, although sometimes it gets mixed up. Throughout the story, I barely understood what was going on. This is not because I haven’t watched the series, but because of the discontinuity of the plot. Many scenes are like jumping without much explanation. A weak script, a very fast plot tempo, and messy story logic make you lose direction from beginning to end.
Forget the script; after all, this film is only for the action and choreography of the fight. This is a silly argument. How can we get into the action if we don’t know what’s going on? What’s at stake? Plot holes that appear here and there are getting more and more chaotic. There was a massacre in the city, with who knows how many dozen people died, so where did the police go? In pursuit, when their car was cornered and dozens of enemies surrounded and opened fire, how could they possibly escape the situation? When the fight turns empty-handed, I don’t know where the guns the criminals are carrying. This kind of silliness is almost every minute. OMG, I can only shake my head; our limits are like being tested; how stupid are we as an audience?
Fistful of Vengeance is an ideal example of a bad action thriller in almost every aspect. Not only with a bad script, but technically. The editing is the worst of all. This kind of amateur editing, is there no aesthetic control from the filmmaker? Even the screen directing (right/left orientation) can be wrong. The scene transitions and sequences (even shots) look rough, as if this film was not taken seriously. Before watching, there were not many expectations, but who would have thought the film could be this bad—what a joke.
Mantap pak reviewnya.
